Neuroscience

A large part of our thoughts, emotional reactions, and actions are conditioned by neural circuit patterns that we partly inherit and partly develop throughout childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Adversities and reactivity create epigenetic changes that can be transmitted through 14 generations. If our ancestors suffered traumas from slavery, war, abuse, or famine, these situations conditioned neural circuits that can be inherited by subsequent generations. Many of us carry intergenerational traumas without being aware of it, but these affect our perceptions and interpretations of reality, as well as our mental, emotional, and physical habits. We also carry disharmonies and incongruities related to various phases of our personal lives or the society in which we live.
However, brain neuroplasticity allows for the reorganization of neural circuits, reducing incongruent patterns and strengthening circuits and patterns that are aligned with mental, physical, and emotional health, well-being, and integrity. Several therapeutic modalities make use of neuroplasticity to reorganize the brain through regular practices involving the body and mind. There is a wide variety of practices based on neuroscience that can be adapted to the preferences of each individual, such as visualizations, therapeutic movements, breathing exercises, cognitive and reflective exercises, ecological therapies, the cultivation of compassion, inner child therapy, among others.
When we strengthen the interconnectivity between different areas of our brain, favoring communication between the left and right hemispheres, and between the brainstem (reptilian), the limbic brain (mammalian), and the cerebral cortex (human), our ability to process emotions and maintain states of mental clarity increases. This facilitates a more conscious, resilient, and harmonious life.
